3.1.21
Welcome to Lazy Goddess, a weekly newsletter that hits your inbox with a hefty dose of dopamine. Each week, I'll send you the best (and worst) of things to make your life a little brighter. In each category, you'll get at least one item to make your day more organized, colorful, relaxing, connected, and/or delicious.
It's March, folks. That means we've almost been in this pandemic for a full year. Feels surreal. Even more of a reason to take some time to invest in (un)necessary things to get us through the week!
**Update 3.11.21: If you’re receiving this email, you may notice that I have switched to Substack! The old platform wasn’t cooperating and my emails were going to your Spam. Hopefully this is better!!
Creature Comforts
Soothing the senses.
I knew as soon as I laid eyes on this Laneige sleeping mask that I would eventually buy it. It's good stuff. Gummy bear flavor tastes like grapes, if you were wondering, and it's delightful. If I had to do it over, I would buy the Glowy Balm rather than the sleeping mask. It doesn't seem like there's much difference, and I am not a fan of open pots of product. I don't think this product is any better than, say, vaseline at moisturizing lips, but it's more fun. I'm more likely to do things that are fun.
Eye of the Beholder
Beauty stuff, but not in detriment-buying kind of way.
This thing looked significantly more ridiculous in 2018, pre-COVID, when I bought it. These face shields are great for protecting you against UV rays, which is helpful for both health and vanity! I bought the long one (above) and a shorter one, but I never use the shorter one. The long one feels nice and safe from the sun (or anyone around you, if you're trying to sit in peace!). It's also totally comfortable, which is something coming from me and my huge skull. If you spend any money or time on skincare for your face, this is like the insurance policy.
I got my first ~request~ for something to include in this week's list! Teeth whitening. Here we go. I've tried it all -- Crest Whitestrips, Crest whitening brushes, plastic trays with peroxide and one of the glow lights you chomp on, etc. I've tried a lot of toothpastes too, and this Crest one above is the best by far. It's the only thing I'm using right now, and I actually notice a difference. With the rest, I'll notice a difference only if I'm using 3+ of the products at one time. With this toothpaste, I have consistency on my side and it seems more powerful than other whitening toothpastes I've tried. I'm happy with my teeth right now and I have been drinking an absurd amount of coffee.
Delicacies
Of the food and drink variety.
I have tried so many non-alcoholic beverages and hated nearly all of them. I bought a Curious Elixirs variety pack for Dry January, and #1 (the flavor is called #1) was a reorder! The rest I hated. But #1 is inspired by a Negroni, and although I don't get that vibe, it's complex and feels like a cocktail. The color is beautiful and it takes a while to sip. I've also tried other nonalcoholic drinks, including Sip Clean, Sapiens, Kin Euphorics, but wouldn't recommend them. In the picture you'll also see a fabulous rocks glass from glassybaby (more on them below!).
Type-A
Organizational catnip for WFH (...or just H stuff).
This is a really fun tool. I use it to take my name/address off of things that aren't worth shredding. You truly cannot read anything underneath that ink!!
Brain Food
Articles, books, quotes, and other noggin' fodder.
Really good NYT article, especially for those of us who grew up in the 90's. Pairs well with the New York Times documentary on Hulu about Britney.
Gifts
Your friends and family will thank you.
I've given a lot of these votives to friends as engagement presents, hosting or housewarming gifts, etc. Purchases support various nonprofits. They're a perfect gift in that they're nice, but also small enough to bring with you easily. They have tons of colors to choose from, and you can buy beeswax tea lights to go with them. I bought these two for a dinner party and they really made my table feel complete!
Flow
Creativity, adult hobbies, flow.
I was just reminded of Skillshare when a friend asked about a good art class recommendation. I loved Skillshare last summer when I was learning how to do things on Procreate on my iPad, and they have tons of excellent classes for anything creative. You have access to all the classes as a member, so you can hop in and out of classes easily and check things out without an additional commitment. My favorite classes were with Liz Kohler Brown.
How about No
Save your moolah. Pass.
I remember the first time I got a dip-powder manicure in 2017 I was floored. They looked so perfect for WEEKS? They felt indestructible. As someone who does not like gel manicures (they always seem to peel off my nails instantly), I thought I found my answer. However, they are brutal to get off your nails, and getting them done at salons is risky because you dip your nail into a communal thing of powder. I thought the at-home option would be good for me, given I am pretty good at giving myself manicures. I went back and forth about buying this, thinking it could be a huge waste of money. I was right!!!!!! This dip powder did not stay on my nails very long - it was definitely different to get it done at a salon. I'm sticking with my regular situation, which is Olive & June. I got a kit for my birthday (from the same favorite person who introduced me to 20 Minute Candles) and now I'm stuck with O&J forever. Their brush is superior to all other brushes, and you won't be able to go back.
Well folks, that's all for this week's Lazy Goddess list. Special thanks to my fiancé, Salty Carbs, for encouraging this endeavor and making the logo! We'd be so grateful if you shared the goods with your friends and family who could use more comfort or color in their lives. None of the above links are affiliate links, FYI - but if you want to support my little project, you can buy me a coffee!
#Influenced: This week, I’ve heard that two of you bought LG-recommended products (specifically: the whitening toothpaste, the shampoo bars, and the tube squeezers!). Enjoy your elevated experience :)
